MAJOR
The Film Studies major consists of a minimum of ten courses, including:
An introductory film criticism course: FI 200 Elements of Film
An introductory film production course: FI 210A Intro to Filmmaking
A film history course: FI 223H American Cinema or FI 224G International Cinema
An intermediate film production course: FI 301 Documentary Filmmaking or FI 302 Narrative Filmmaking
Two (2) film criticism electives (with one at the 300 or 400 level): Film history, genre/auteur/ topics, internship, or interdisciplinary film criticism courses not taken to satisfy the requirements above (see list below); only one elective can be from another discipline.
Two (2) film production electives (with one at the 300 or 400 level): intermediate and upper‑ level film production, internship, and interdisciplinary film production courses not taken to satisfy the requirements above; only one elective can be from another discipline.

MINOR
The Film Studies minor draws upon the wide variety of film‑related activities and resources available at Eckerd College, provides a strong complement to several major fields of study in the humanities and the arts, and offers an excellent opportunity for majors in the natural and social sciences to complement their focus with studies and applications that emphasize creativity, interpretation, and humanistic studies.
It requires six courses, including two core courses (Elements of Film and Introduction to Filmmaking), one additional course in the area of film criticism and another in film production, and two electives.
The minor requirements are as follows:
