Programs of study leading to B.A., B.S. and American Chemical Society (ACS) certified B.S. degrees are available. The descriptions below summarize degree requirements.

B.A Degree

  • CH 121N, 122, 212, 221, 222, 321, 326

  • one upper‑level chemistry elective from 315, 322, 412, 422, and 424.

B.S. Degree

  • CH 121N, 122, 212, 221, 222, 321, 322, 326, 424

  • one upper‑level chemistry elective, from 315, 412 or 422.

B.S. Degree (ACS certified)

  • CH 121N, 122, 212, 221, 222, 315, 321, 322, 326, and 424

  • one upper‑level chemistry elective, from 412, 417 or 422.

  • An approved research experience is also required. The certification for this degree program is through the American Chemical Society.

All chemistry majors must enroll in the Chemistry & Biochemistry Capstone Course (CH 498) in the spring semester of their senior year. Moreover, all chemistry and biochemistry programs require two semesters of college‑level calculus (MA 131M and MA 132M) and two semesters of college‑level physics (PH 241N and PH 242).

Students must maintain a C average or better in courses within the Chemistry Discipline and the required supporting courses listed above.

Students may obtain a minor in chemistry by earning a C‑ or better in any six chemistry courses or any five chemistry courses with an experiential laboratory component.
